Breaking Records: Italy’s Passenger Air Travel Soars in 2024

The Italian airport system has marked a significant milestone in 2024, closing the year with a record-breaking 219 million passengers, an 11.1% increase compared to 2023. Notably, 146 million of these travelers flew on international routes, reinforcing Italy’s position as a key European hub for air travel.

For the first time since 2019, the distribution of passenger traffic has returned to pre-pandemic levels, with one-third traveling on domestic routes and two-thirds on international routes.

Top Airports in Italy by Passenger Volume

Among the busiest airports in Italy, Rome Fiumicino led the ranking with 49.2 million passengers, followed by Milan Malpensa with 28.9 million and Bergamo with 17.4 million.
